Nerf guns are known for providing countless hours of shooting fun without causing painful bruises and injuries one gets from other stronger guns. The N-Strike series has definitely made Nerf guns one step closer to real artillery without losing the fun factor. In this Nerf N-Strike Magstrike review, we shall explore one of the pioneers in battery-less, rapid-fire Nerf guns and see why people love them so much.
The N-Strike Magstrike AS-10
The N-Strike Magstrike AS-10 is a mean, rapid firing machine capable of launching up to 10 darts at a time. The Magstrike is portable, which makes it possible to even the odds quite drastically, especially if your opponents are using heavier Nerf guns that require tripods to shoot precisely. Unlike blasters that use springs for launching the darts, the Magstrike uses an air pump, which reduces the need for batteries. The next sections of this Nerf Magstrike review shall talk about aspects of the Magstrike that people love or hate, so if you’re thinking of buying one for yourself, read on.
The Magstrike runs by using a manual air pump, which means that the noise you’d end up hearing will be the strange, if not comical, squeaking sounds when you’re manually pumping the gun, and then the mechanical clicks as the gun launches the darts. You’d also hear a slight hiss as the safety pressure valve kicks in and tells you that you’re good to go. The sonic micro darts supposedly makes a whistling noise as it flies into the air, but on windy days, this isn’t particularly audible, nor is it remotely useful. It’s amusing to hear in indoor Nerf wars, though.
The rapid-fire ability of the Magstrike is both a blessing and a curse; the upside is that you get to fire 10 darts at a time, therefore hitting most, if not all of your opponents in one shot. A lot of beginners love going for the Magstrike because of this. The downside is that you CAN’T fire single shots; doing so may cause the Magstrike to jam (if you had the chance to shoot ten darts, why shoot only one, though?).
Because of the air pump used, the Magstrike can shoot up to about 40 feet! The only problem, however, is that as the air bladder loses more air, the range of the succeeding darts also fall drastically. This means that while the first shot might reach 40 feet, the rest of the shots might only reach 30 feet or less. Nevertheless, even the lower ranges are quite impressive; in most Nerf N-Strike Magstrike reviews we read across forums and other sites, they to have mentioned that you’d see about a 20-40 feet range, which makes it more than capable of shooting targets indoor and outdoor.
The manual pump on the Magstrike is rather easy to use and doesn’t feel flimsy at all, despite the whole thing being made of plastic. The pump doesn’t require a lot of strength to use, which is definitely a huge plus especially for children. The grip and the dual-finger trigger are both very comfortable to use. The only downside is that you need to pump the gun quite a lot of times (possibly up to 30!) to get an optimal range for the darts. This is, however, quite an acceptable compromise since you won’t need a battery to operate the gun. Overall, the Magstrike is very well thought of in terms of ergonomics and is easy to use, both for children and adults alike.
Nerf guns are known for being made out of plastic, and the Magstrike is no exception. You’ll of course, want to take care of the black air bladder, as puncturing it will render it inefficient or even useless. It is, however, surprisingly sturdy and will be able to take quite a lot of use and abuse. Some people report getting units that are dead on arrival, especially from obscure online sites, so make sure that you get your unit from trusted sites such as Amazon for security.
The Nerf N-Strike Magstrike AS-10 is well received because of its signature, 10-shot rapid-fire ability, as well as its mobility and durability. Whether you’re a beginner or an expert, you’ll love what the Magstrike has to offer.
