The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 is regarded as one of the best in the Nerf Elite series, largely because of its sleek engineering and modifiability. Introduced in September 2013, it was considered as the successor to the Stampede ECS with several important innovations. The Rapidstrike CS-18 can shoot farther and faster with more consistency compared to its precursors. For example, its gearbox is less complicated and has fewer mechanical parts which greatly enhanced its reliability. It is also lighter and easier to use. At a discounted price on at Amazon, this is a remarkable product to consider as a gift to your kids.
This Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS-18 Review will guide you through the product’s design, ergonomics, use, and performance.
Nerf Elite Rapidstrike Review: Design and Ergonomics
The design of the Nerf Elite Rapidstrike is known as “tacticool” that really suits up to its target market: young boys. It comes with three main strap points, five tac rails, and one non-removable but adjustable stock. It also includes a rifled barrel, a battery tray under the barrel that also serves as the front half of the front grip, and a trick sight that also doubles as top grip. The package comes with the 18 dart transparent clip, but on Amazon you can easily buy the N-Strike Elite 18-Dart Quick Reload Clip as well as the Nerf N-Strike Elite Dart Refill Pack.
The present non-XD model of the Nerf Elite Rapidstrike is designed with the conventional orange-blue color theme, which is accentuated by some dark gray highlights with some silver bits added on the shoulder. The dart clip is transparent. In general, the Rapidstrike has a smart design and really looks cool.
Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike CS 18: Use and Performance
It’s easy to use the Rapidstrike CS-18. You just need to pull the Acceleration Trigger located under the trigger guard to start the internal motors, and then hit the firing trigger to automatically launch the darts. However, it is also important to take note that the Rapidstrike can fire in short bursts or in single shots.
Even though it is fun to fire at full-auto, it isn’t ideal to fire in bursts, because continuous firing could affect the movement of the flywheels, which reduce the speed in which the darts could be fired. This product is equipped with high-demanding motors compared to most flywheel based blasters. This explains the need to use a “C” battery which is bigger than the normal “AA” batteries used by most semi-auto flywheel blasters such as the Nerf ECS 12.
In full-auto, the Rapidstrike can reach a Parallel to Ground (PTG) distance of about 49 feet, and up to 59 feet with about 30-degree arc. But if you allow the flywheels to hit maximum speed and fired a one dart at a time, you can strike a remarkable max distance of more than 70 feet.
Some users of the Rapidstrike CS-18 reported some jamming problems. They mainly cited the quality of the dart and the well-known rubber dart skirt. In order to resolve these issues, some users modified the blaster or used more powerful cell batteries. But still, most users have not experienced these jamming issues, so it could be said that those are isolated cases only. But it is nevertheless worthy to be noted in reference to user experience.
The Nerf N-Strike Elite Rapidstrike Verdict
It is clear that the Rapidstrike CS-18 is still the best blaster from Nerf, until a better version is introduced. With its design and performance that equals or even better the Nerf CS-12 for a discounted price at Amazon, it provides real value for your money. It doesn’t include a camera, but it comes with tactical rails that allow you to add a phone mount. But most players don’t mind adding a camera, as they find it too exciting to play with the Nerf CS-18.
